How to care for aquamarine jewelry
Aquamarine rates 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale, which provides useful scratch resistance, but it can still be scratched or damaged by a hard knock.
- Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush; rinse and dry gently.
- Warm soapy water is the safest default when treatment, inclusions or fracture filling are unknown.
- Avoid high heat. Ultrasonic and steam cleaning are not suitable when the stone has fractures, liquid inclusions or fracture filling.
- Store separately from harder gems that can scratch it and softer gems that it could scratch.
